THE DOUGLAS CHANNEL AND PACIFIC INLAND COAST REGION

Retire in Kitimat: Playground on the Pacific Inland Coast

If you’ve dreamed for decades of cruising, sailing, fishing, or wilderness and wildlife photography in your retirement – the Pacific Inland Coast is the ultimate active-living-retirement-playground.

It’s treasure is The Douglas Channel, a major BC fjord, which provides easy access to over 100 bays, inlets, coves, and some 25 BC Marine Parks, Protected Areas and Heritage Conservancies.  Three of these parks have natural coastal hot springs with small, quaint, sheltered pools.  All are within easy access of Kitimat.

This playground is big… over 130 square nautical miles (150 sq. miles / 250 sq. km) of coastline with  protected passages and all-weather anchorages for boating, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, wildlife viewing, scuba diving... the list goes on and on.

Those whose passions include deep-sea fishing and coastal river fly-fishing win on two counts – good fishing almost everywhere, and the promise of innumerable health benefits from adding more fish to your diet.

Imagine deep-sea halibut, crab, salmon, lingcod or red snapper for dinner each week. Or mix it up with fresh water fly-fishing for Cutthroat, Steelhead or Dolly Varden from our coastal rivers. Our wild protein will add years of good health to your lives.

If nature photography is your passion --you'll take award winning shots of eagles, herons, osprey, whales, seas-lions, seals, dolphins and Black, Grizzly or Kermode bears.

You may choose to retire to Kitimat for many reasons - however - the most compelling will be your opportunity to enjoy an active coastal lifestyle in a temperate rainforest climate.

This exceptional community has amenities and a seascape unlike any other - with the added benefit that so few have yet to discover it. If you've imagined your retirement to be one of active outdoor living, come  for a visit. We'd love to show you around.
