KITIMAT MUSEUM AND ARCHIVES
The Kitimat Museum and Archives enriches the lives of Kitimat residents both young and old by providing opportunities to:
- explore the town's history,
- learn about the region's geology, flora and fauna,
- view exhibitions of artwork by local artists and traveling art shows,
- and attend workshops and talks on local history, natural history, travel, painting, multicultural crafts and international issues.
The museum is conveniently located downtown beside City Centre Mall and has a satellite display in the mall itself. The friendly staff is eager to assist visitors and answer any questions.
The museum's permanent display of artifacts has much to tell about local fauna, particularly birds and about the history of our valley including:
- early valley settlement,
- construction of Alcan's aluminum smelter and the town site in the 1950s,
- and Haisla traditional arts and technology.
