KITIMAT UNDERSTANDING THE ENVIRONMENT

KUTE (Kitimat Understanding the Environment), a non-profit organization established in 1990, operates the recyling depot in Kitimat. Materials for recycling are dropped off at the depot in the service centre. Materials accepted for recycling are:

  • paper (except construction paper)
  • cardboard
  • tin
  • aluminum pie places
  • batteries
  • cell phones and other electonics.

An area of the depot is set aside for the Trading Post where free materials are exchanged.

In addition to operating the recycling depot, KUTE also sponsors environmentally friendly activities such as:

  • Kitimat River Clean Up
  • Seed and Plant Exchange
  • Earth Day Celebrations
