Kitimat: A Moderate Coastal Temperate Climate
Our coastal temperate rainforest features some of the most picturesque wilderness in British Columbia. Western Hemlock, Western Red Cedar, Sitka Spruce and Yellow Cedar are prevalent tree species and our four-season coastal climate is favoured to that of neighbouring coastal and interior communities.
Kitimat’s development actually included climate considerations. Streets enable most homes a southwest exposure, maximizing both sunlight and protection from climatic elements.
Inlanders find the climate moderate: averages from 2003-2009 we had 1,500 hours and 249 days with sun, warmest-day averages of 300C and coolest-day averages of -200C. Rain fell an average of 185 days a year with amounts of rain and snow being 2017mm or 79in of rain and 317cm or 125cm of snow.
